Gift Cards Information

Purchasing a Gift Card

The Old Navy GiftCard ("Card") is issued by Direct Consumer Services, LLC, a California limited liability company, and may be redeemed for merchandise at any of the Gap brand, Old Navy, Banana Republic, or Athleta stores, including Outlet and Factory stores. The Card may also be redeemed for merchandise at,,, or Purchases will be deducted from this Card until the value reaches zero. This Card may not be used or redeemed with certain promotional offers and may not be applied as payment on any account. Additional value may be added at any Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic or Athleta location. Redeemable for cash when the balance is less than $5 or as required by law. Restricted to use in the USA and Canada.

Replacement cards will be issued only for the dollar value remaining on the card at the time you report it lost or stolen. No replacement cards will be issued without original receipt.

Redeeming a Gift Card

Redeeming a gift card is easy. Just shop and check out as you normally would. During Checkout you can then enter your gift card number into the gift card entry fields on the Billing Page or the Order Review page. You will need to enter both the 16-digit gift card number and the 4-digit PIN on the back of your gift card. When you click the "Apply" button, you will get a confirmation message indicating that the gift card has been applied to your order.

You may apply a maximum of 5 gift cards per order. To enter more than one gift card, enter the first gift card number and 4-digit PIN and click the "Apply" button. You will see a confirmation message that your gift card has been applied. Then enter your second gift card number and 4-digit PIN and click apply. You will see a confirmation message that your second gift card has been applied.

To redeem an Athleta gift certificate, merchandise credit, or coupon received before July 2009, please call 1-877-3ATHLETA (1-877-328-4538).

Checking the Balance on a Gift Card

You can check the balance on a gift card on the Billing Page in "Checkout" or in "Your Account". In both places, you will see a link to "Check Balance." You can then enter the 16-digit gift card number and the 4-digit PIN on the back of your card and click "Check Balance". Then, we immediately provide you with the balance on the gift card.

eGift Cards Information

How do eGift Cards work?

Our eGift Cards can be purchased through our websites by clicking on the eGift Card option from the Gift Card page. This will take you to our partner site � CashStar. To order an eGift Card, just choose the denomination and the card design or upload your own photo. Then enter the recipient's email address. Once the purchase has been completed, the eGift Card will be sent to the recipient within hours of purchase or on the date you choose. If lost, simply reprint the eGift Card. If stolen, contact CashStar Customer Support at 1-866-853-9918. Since this is a partner site, you will not be able to buy the eGift Card and other merchandise in the same transaction. The eGift Card can be redeemed online or in our retail stores. Just like our plastic Gift Cards, there are no expiration dates or fees.

How are eGift Cards different from plastic Gift Cards?

Plastic Gift Cards are sent to recipients via mail. eGift Cards are sent via e-mail and can be printed out and used hours after they're purchased. Both plastic and eGift Cards have no fees or expiration dates. They are both redeemable in stores and online.

How do I cancel the purchase of an eGift Card?

If you chose a delivery date that is in the future, you can cancel your purchase by contacting CashStar Customer Support at 1-866-853-9918. If the delivery date is today or in the past, your purchase cannot be cancelled.

Which credit cards do you accept?

We can accept VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. The Banana Republic Credit Card, Old Navy Credit Card and Gap Credit Card cannot be accepted as payment for an eGift Card purchase because this site is operated by our third party partner, CashStar.

I want a printed eGift Card to present to someone as a gift. How can I accomplish this?

Simply personalize the eGift Card for your recipient, have it sent to yourself, and then print it. To do this, enter your own email address in the "Recipient Email" field, and check the box next to "This is for me." Enter your recipient's name and your own personal message on the Gift Card preview, and complete the transaction normally. You will receive an eGift Card alert via email. Follow the instructions in the message to retrieve your eGift Card, and then click "Print this page." The resulting printout may be presented as a gift to the recipient, and may be redeemed online or in our retail stores.

Can I purchase an eGift Card with other merchandise in the same transaction?

No. The purchase of an eGift Card is operated by our third party partner, CashStar. To buy Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Piperlime or Athleta merchandise, you will need to go to one of our websites (,,,, and and make the merchandise purchase in a separate transaction.

What exactly does the recipient receive when I send an eGift Card?

On the delivery date you choose, a message is sent to the recipient informing them of your gift, with a link to retrieve it online. The link in the email goes to a page showing the eGift Card you created (the design you selected, with your recipient's name and your personalized message), its value and code number. The page also gives simple instructions for redeeming the eGift Card.

How do I know the recipient actually received the eGift Card I sent them?

You will receive an email confirming delivery and a message notifying you that the eGift Card has been viewed. If the eGift Card is not viewed within 7 days after delivery, you will receive a message with options for resolving the issue. We will send you another message 15 days after delivery if no action is taken. You may also contact CashStar Customer Support at 1-866-853-9918 with the order number from the email you received confirming your purchase, and we can tell you if the recipient viewed their eGift Card.

When does the eGift Card expire?

Like our plastic gift cards, there is no expiration date on your eGift Card. We recommend that you redeem it soon after you receive it, so you don't forget.

How do I check my eGift Card balance?

To check your eGift Card balance, go to the Gift Card page on one of our websites and click "Check a Gift Card Balance".

Is my order secure?

All personal and financial information is transmitted using the https protocol over a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), utilizing state-of-the-art technology for consumer protection. Behind the scenes, your Web browser is sending all personal and financial information over SSL. The eGift Card purchase process is fully PCI compliant. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact CashStar Customer Support at 1-866-853-9918.

What if I lose my eGift Card?

Your eGift Card has cash value and should be safeguarded as such. If you misplaced your eGift Card, you can reprint it if you bookmarked it in your browser or click on the link in the original email. If your eGift Card was lost or stolen, contact CashStar immediately at 1-866-853-9918. If your eGift Card has not been redeemed or has some remaining value, CashStar can cancel the original and reissue a new eGift Card to you for the remaining value.

Are there any fees associated with the eGift Card?

No. You will only be charged the face value of the eGift Card, and we will not impose shipping or any other fees at any time.

Can I change the value of an eGift Card after I've paid for it?

Not at this time.

What is a credit card Security Code and why is it required?

In order to protect you from unauthorized transactions, we require your credit card's Security Code.

•MasterCard, VISA, and Discover: The Security Code is the 3-digit number printed on the signature panel on the back of your card. It immediately follows the account number.

•American Express: The Security Code (also referred to as the CID number) is printed above the imprinted card number on the front of the card (on either the left or right).**

** Please note, there are a small percentage of "plastic-less" card accounts for American Express — Corporate and Purchasing Card accounts. If you have one of these accounts with no AMEX card, please enter 5555 as your card Security Code.

When is my credit card charged for my purchase?

Your credit card is charged at the time of purchase. This purchase will appear on your credit/debit card statement as GAP CSTAR GFTCRD.

Can I buy an eGift Card for myself?

Yes. To do so, enter your own email address in the "Recipient Email" fields, and enter your own name as the recipient name. Then check "This is for myself." Complete the transaction normally. When you receive your eGift Card alert (via email), follow the instructions in the message to retrieve and redeem your eGift Card.

Can I send two (or more) eGift Cards to two (or more) different people who share an email address?

Yes. If you send separate Gift Cards to Aunt Mary and Uncle Jim at their shared email address, they will receive two messages with the subject "[Sender] sent you a Virtual Gift Card for Gap Inc." Your name will be in the place of [Sender]. Within the text of the emails, each message will be addressed to the respective recipient, using the name you entered in the purchase process, for example: "Mary Smith, John Jones sent you a $XX eGift Card for Gap Inc."

How do I prevent the email from getting lost as spam?

We adhere to all industry best practices to ensure successful delivery of the eGift Card via email. Still, there is a chance that the email will be treated as spam or the recipient didn't notice it in their email inbox. You will receive an email message confirming delivery of the eGift Card alert email, and a message notifying you that the eGift Card has been viewed. If the eGift Card is not viewed within 15 days after delivery, you will receive a message with options for resolving the issue.

What if someone makes a copy of my printed eGift Card?

Our state-of-the-art technology inhibits fraud, but you must safeguard your eGift Card for your own protection. If someone makes a copy of your eGift Card and redeems it for the full amount, your copy will have no value. No matter how many copies are made, the value of the Virtual Gift Card is tied to the Gift Card number. When that number is used, the value of the purchase is deducted from the eGift Card. If you suspect that someone has copied or stolen your eGift Card, contact CashStar Customer Support immediately at 1-866-903-9161. Any value that has not been used can be reissued to you in a new eGift Card.

Gift Packaging

Items from Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic and Athleta will be wrapped in the gift packaging option of the store you check out from. Piperlime items are not eligible for gift wrap, but are wrapped in tissue and delivered in a Piperlime box.

Gift Messages

Type your message in the box provided (limit 150 characters) to include a complimentary personal gift message with your order. We'll print your message on a special note card, insert it in an envelope, and send it with your gift. There is a limit of one gift message per order.

Gift Receipts

If you indicate that your order is a gift, we will automatically include a gift receipt that lists the items, but not their prices.
